Owner's Club (VOC) was formed in 1981, in Florida. It was founded for
the purpose of being a family style, open, owner's group. We were never
hung up on what you rode. We all shared one basic thing...the desire to
ride! From 1981 to1987 we were establishing ourselves in the motorcycle community and really didn't have a large following. There was no need to hold elections until then. In 1987 we held our first election which included the President, Vice-president, Secretary and Treasurer. Voluntary offices included Membership Director and Newsletter Editor. At about this time we had roughly 130 members. By 1993 had a grown to roughly 300 active members. Most of them owned Viragos, yet many had other brands. In 1994 we held another election this time a voluntary position, Dealer Director, was added to the board. From this point on we established that elected terms would be three years and voluntary offices would be for as long as the individual wanted to continue. We really started to grow adding 600+ members to the roster. Our newsletter improved dramatically both in content and in layout. We sponsored three annual rallies, two in the US and one in Canada. Our Membership Director, A.J (Bug) Mei Sr., in his spare time, created our first Website. It really put us on the map. Elections were held again in 1996 and we now had the same top four positions with some added volunteers. We added the Canadian Affairs Director, Web Master, and Assistant Newsletter Editor. By this time we were enjoying an active membership of 1200+. I guess you could say we are enjoying a rebirth of sorts, thanks to hard working officers, volunteers and local coordinators from Canada and the USA. We call ourselves "A Family Of Riders", and our members enjoy lasting friendships made through the club both on the local and international levels. Many members have a wealth of knowledge about Viragos, so help with your bike is as near as your phone or dial-up to the Internet via the VOC Website. We are an "Open Club" and many of our members own and ride other makes of motorcycles. Although we fall under the auspices of the Yamaha Virago, we are mainly a group people with a very common interest...Riding! We consider the Virago to be very dependable and enjoyable. We have many high mileage owners. Our members have come up with some very innovative ways to modify their machines. Some have even designed and made their own parts. Virago is English for: Ill-Tempered Woman Virago is Latin for: Maiden Warrior |
